We all use mirrors every day, especially to get ready in the morning. But one man saw an opportunity to make mirrors smarter, so he made one himself. Ryan Nelwan, an engineer at app design studio Swipe Labs in San Francisco, California, invented a working touchscreen mirror that runs on software he built.
Nelwan posted a demonstration of his touchscreen mirror’s capabilities to YouTube on Tuesday. It's truly incredible, and I want one, like, yesterday.
You've got to see it for yourself.
The first thing you’ll see is the “Home Screen," which displays widgets in the corners of the screen. The mirror is always on, but you can also keep it in rest mode where it displays no information.

The top left of the mirror shows information about the weather and how much time it would take to get to work from your current position.
The top right of the mirror shows the current date and time.

The bottom left corner of the mirror serves as a music player. Because we all like getting ready in the morning with a little music.

To play music, just tap on the play button.

To control volume, you just hold two fingers up against the mirror, and slide up or down.

There’s also a center button. Touching it brings up all the apps you have in the mirror.

The Nelwan supports Apps too.If you tap on the search bar, it’ll bring up a fully functional keyboard.

See? Full QWERTY, right on your mirror.

Once you start typing, the mirror will filter what you’re looking for.

Here’s what Reddit looks like on Nelwan’s interactive mirror. It's super basic at first, but it's got a neat trick.

You can actually watch videos right in the mirror. Nelwan visits /r/videos to watch the newest "X-Men" movie trailer.

Just like the music player, you can control the volume of your videos by holding two fingers against the mirror and sliding them up or down.
You can also move the video around so it doesn’t block your view as you’re getting ready.

Nelwan also created an integration with the Nest thermostat so he can control his apartment’s temperature from his mirror. All you need to do is hold two fingers to the mirror and rotate them.

Running late? The mirror will alert you when that happens.
One of the options when you’re running late is to hail an Uber. Nelwan connected Uber’s public API to his mirror so he could request a cab from his bathroom.
Change your mind? No worries, you can cancel those Uber requests from there, too.

This is just a prototype but we hope Nelwan finds a way to bring this product to the masses. In the meantime, check out his full video Here.
